Diabelli Variations
Beethoven wrote an hour's worth of variations on a waltz by Diabelli.
But other composers (Hummel, Kalkbrenner, Moscheles, Liszt, Schubert and
Czerny) also wrote much shorter variations on this theme. In fact,
all of these pieces are less than a minute and a half long, and all
would be presented in this hour, except for the Beethoven, which could
fit in only highlights.
